Grade 2 English Language Arts · Level 5, Plan, compose, revise, discuss, listen, and present for real Grade 2 communication purposes.

Plan, Revise, Edit, and Publish

With age-appropriate support, plan for audience/purpose, draft, revise for clarity/details, edit conventions, use feedback, and use print/digital tools to produce writing.

How the lesson starts: Plan, Revise, Edit, and Publish

  1. Otto's big story

This is Otto the otter. Otto floats on his back and dreams up stories. He wants one in the River News! Good writers don't do it all at once. They follow steps.

  2. The writing steps

Plan means think and list ideas. Draft means write a first try. Revise means make the ideas clearer. Edit means fix small mistakes. Publish means share it!

  3. Revise or edit?

Revise and edit sound alike. But they are different jobs. Revise makes ideas clearer. Add a detail. Cut an off-topic sentence. Edit fixes small mistakes. Spelling, periods, and capital letters.
