Grade 2 English Language Arts · Level 3, Understand, recount, and analyze literary texts using details from words and illustrations.

Read Words and Pictures Together

Use illustrations and text together to understand characters, setting, plot, mood-like cues, or important story details.

How the lesson starts: Read Words and Pictures Together

  1. Meet the twins

Meet two bunny twins. Rafi reads the words. Luna looks at the pictures. Alone, they each know part of the story. Together, they know it all!

  2. Rafi reads

Rafi reads. Omar grabbed his bucket and shovel. He could not wait to start digging. Hmm. Where is Omar? The words do not say! A garden? A park? Let's ask Luna.

  3. Luna looks

Luna looks at the picture. She sees waves. She sees shells. She sees a beach umbrella. Now we know! Omar is at the beach. The picture told us the setting.
