Understand Characters

Describe how characters respond to major events or challenges and infer simple traits/feelings from actions and details.

How the lesson starts: Understand Characters

  1. Meet Ember

Meet Ember, a little dragon at clay class. Ember never says, I feel sad. She never says, I am brave. But you can still tell! Watch what she does and says.

  2. Bodies show feelings

Characters show feelings with their bodies. Jumping up and down shows excited. Stomping and huffing shows angry. Sighing and looking down shows sad. Biting nails shows worried.

  3. Oh no, the pot!

Listen. Ember's clay pot cracked. She took a deep breath and started again. How did Ember respond to the problem? Did she give up? No! She started again. She tried again!
