How the lesson starts: Bridge: Infer Using Details and Examples

Inspector Rosa
Meet Inspector Rosa, a raccoon detective. Authors don't always tell you everything. They leave clues instead. Rosa adds the clues to what she already knows. That smart, careful guess is called an inference.
Case one: Leo
Read case one. Leo checked the clock for the tenth time. He bounced on his toes by the front door. When a car pulled up, he flung the door open. How does Leo feel? The author never says!
Let's add it up
Rosa lines up the clues. Leo keeps checking the clock. He bounces on his toes. Rosa knows people do that when they can't wait. So she infers that Leo is excited for a visitor. Clue plus what I know equals inference!
