Bridge: Strengthen Opinion with Evidence

Begin supporting an opinion with reasons plus evidence/examples and clearer organization across more than one paragraph.

How the lesson starts: Bridge: Strengthen Opinion with Evidence

  1. Kavi's big idea

Kavi the goat has a big opinion. The school should build a climbing wall! But shouting it won't convince the principal. Kavi needs a reason, and proof that the reason is true.

  2. The argument tower

Here's the plan. The opinion is what you think. A reason tells why you think it. Evidence is a fact or an example that proves the reason is true. Evidence is like the bricks that hold up the tower.

  3. Let's test for evidence

Not every sentence is evidence. I love climbing is a feeling. Climbing walls look so cool is a feeling too. Strong evidence is a fact or example. Climbing works many muscles. That's proof!
