Compare Two Informational Texts

Compare and contrast the most important points and key details in two texts on the same topic.

How the lesson starts: Compare Two Informational Texts

  1. Two owl reporters

Ada and Obi are owl reporters at the Treetop Times. Both wrote about penguins! But their articles are not the same. Let's read both and sort out which detail came from where.

  2. Two articles

Text A: Emperor penguins live on the ice near the South Pole. They swim well and eat fish. The father holds the egg on his feet. Text B: Little blue penguins are the smallest penguins. They swim well and eat fish. At night, they waddle home to burrows.

  3. Let's sort the details

Obi sorts detail cards. Where did each detail come from? Go back and check. The father holds the egg is only in Text A. Waddle home at night is only in Text B. Swim well and eat fish are in both!
