How the lesson starts: Organize an Informative Explanation

Miko packs a bento
Meet Miko, a lunchbox robot who packs perfect bento boxes. Every box needs a lid that fits over all the food. Miko packs facts the same way! The lid is the topic sentence.
A lid that fits
The topic sentence tells what it is all about. Camels go days without a drink. Lizards hide in the shade. Kangaroo rats get water from seeds. What fits all three? Desert animals have special ways to live in heat and dry weather.
Let's test three lids
Miko tests lids for three octopus facts: eight arms, three hearts, and squirting ink. Octopuses have eight arms. Too small! It covers one fact. Sea animals are interesting. Too big! Octopuses have amazing bodies and clever tricks. Just right!
