The Word Repair Shop
Ding, ding! Welcome to the Word Repair Shop. Nova the owl fixes broken spellings. Today Nova says a word out loud, and you type it. Spelling rules are her repair tools. Let's fill your toolbox!
Ending tools
Three tools fix word endings. One. A consonant and Y? Change Y to I: carry, carried. Two. A short vowel and one last consonant? Double it: stop, stopped. Three. A silent E at the end? Drop it: hope, hoping.
Quiet letters
Some letters stay quiet, but you still write them. Knock has a silent K. Write has a silent W. Many words end with T, I, O, N, like station. Others end with T, U, R, E, like picture. Listen for the end chunk!
