Decode Multisyllabic and Irregular Words

Read grade-appropriate multisyllabic words using syllable patterns/morphemes and recognize irregular high-frequency words automatically.

How the lesson starts: Decode Multisyllabic and Irregular Words

  1. Mochi eats long words

Meet Mochi, a small dragon with a big appetite for words. Mochi never swallows a long word whole. Mochi takes small bites, one chunk at a time. Then she puts the bites back in order!

  2. One bite, one vowel sound

Watch Mochi bite the word remember. Re, mem, ber. Three bites! Each bite has one vowel sound. A bite like this is called a syllable. Now say the bites in order, fast. Remember. Yum!

  3. Let's fix mixed-up bites

Oops! Mochi's bites got mixed up: ture, ad, ven. Which bite comes first? Say the word slowly. Adventure. Ad comes first, then ven, then ture. Put the bites in order and read it fast. Adventure!
