How the lesson starts: Track Sequence, Time, and Cause in Informational Text

  1. Gizmo's pancake machine

Meet Gizmo, a robot who builds giant machines. Today Gizmo builds a pancake machine. Every step must go in the right order, or the pancakes flop! Let's follow along.

  2. Time words show the order

Gizmo reads the plan. First, pour flour into a bowl. Next, crack in two eggs. Then stir in milk until it is smooth. Finally, pour the batter onto a hot pan. Time words tell the order.

  3. Let's line up the steps

Gizmo lines up the steps like train cars. Flour, eggs, milk, pan. Follow the time words to put each step in its place. If you mix them up, you pour flour on a hot pan!
