Otto's River Fair
Splash! Otto the otter is running the River Fair. There are prize pumpkins, tall sunflowers, and a pie contest. Otto writes signs for everything. Every word on his signs has a job. Let's learn the jobs!
Every word has a job
Read Otto's first sign. The proud duck quacked loudly. Duck is a noun, a naming word. Quacked is a verb, an action. Proud is an adjective. It tells about the duck. Loudly is an adverb. It tells how the duck quacked.
Touch it or feel it?
Nouns come in two kinds. Concrete nouns are things you can touch, like a trophy or a pie. Abstract nouns are ideas and feelings, like pride, joy, and courage. You can't hold joy in your paws!
