Use Technology to Produce, Publish, and Collaborate

With adult guidance, use digital tools to produce/publish writing and collaborate, including basic keyboarding/editing choices that support the writing task.

How the lesson starts: Use Technology to Produce, Publish, and Collaborate

  1. The Treehouse Times

High in an oak tree is a newsroom called the Treehouse Times. Emeka the squirrel is a reporter. With help from Ms. Hoot, the grown-up owl editor, he writes on a tablet. Let's learn the tools he uses!

  2. Keyboard helpers

Emeka's keyboard has helpers. The shift key makes a capital letter. The space bar puts a space between words. Undo takes back a mistake. Save keeps your work for later. Text tools make a title big and bold.

  3. Word helpers

Three tools help with words. A dictionary tells how to spell a word and what it means. A thesaurus finds a word that means almost the same. A spell checker spots spelling mistakes in typed writing. A camera or a volume button doesn't help your words at all!
