Craft a Narrative
Orient the reader, introduce narrator/characters, sequence events naturally, use dialogue and description, add sensory detail, transitions, and a fitting conclusion.
How the lesson starts: Craft a Narrative

Talent Night
Meet Sunny, a fox who plays the ukulele. Tonight is the Forest Talent Show! Something goes wrong, and then something goes right. But Sunny's story cards got shuffled. Let's put the events in order.
Beginning, middle, end
A story moves from a beginning, to a middle, to an end. The beginning shows the problem. The middle shows what the characters do about it. The end shows how it all works out. Time words like then and just in time are clues.
Order Sunny's night
One evening, Sunny's string snaps backstage. Right away, Pax the badger offers a spare. Just in time, they fix it. Then Sunny plays her song. Finally, the meadow cheers. Each event leads to the next.
