Compare Characters, Settings, and Events

Compare and contrast two or more characters, settings, or events using specific details about actions, interactions, and change.

How the lesson starts: Compare Characters, Settings, and Events

  1. Dragon Peak

High on Dragon Peak, two young dragons, Ember and Flint, get the most important job of the year. Same job, same mountain, same wind. But they don't do everything the same way.

  2. The lantern job

Ember and Flint had to light the festival lanterns. A cold wind blew every flame out. Ember huffed a bigger flame, again and again. Flint built a stone wall. Both dragons grinned when the lanterns glowed.

  3. Ember, Flint, or both?

Let's sort the details. Huffed flame after flame? Only Ember. Built a stone wall? Only Flint. Grinned at the end? Both did! Watch out: a detail can belong to both, so check each dragon before you choose.
