Connect Visuals and Multimedia to Text

Analyze how illustrations, graphic-novel panels, sound, or other multimedia elements contribute to meaning, tone, or beauty.

How the lesson starts: Connect Visuals and Multimedia to Text

  1. Lights, camera, moose!

Director Maple is a moose who turns stories into movies and comic books. She says words are only part of the magic. A picture can add a feeling the words never say.

  2. Same words, new mood

The script says only this: the forest was quiet. Picture A adds storm clouds and bent trees. Now quiet feels tense. Picture B adds sunshine and butterflies. Now quiet feels peaceful. The picture adds the mood.

  3. Let's say what it adds

Text: the party began. The picture shows balloons and a smiling crowd. Watch out: don't just say what it shows. Ask what it adds. The words don't say how the party feels. The balloons and smiles add a joyful mood.
