Format Titles and Spell Accurately
Use underlining, quotation marks, or italics for titles as appropriate and spell grade-appropriate words correctly using references when needed.
How the lesson starts: Format Titles and Spell Accurately

Biscuit the library cat
Biscuit is the library cat at the Moonbeam Library. Her job is labels. Every title gets the right outfit, so readers know what kind of work it is.
Big works, small works
Big, whole works are underlined: books and movies. Small works get quotation marks: poems and songs. Trick: the small piece, like a song, can live inside a big work, like an album.
Let's dress a title
Kai read the poem Teacup Thunder. Is a poem a big work or a small work? Small! So it wears quotation marks. Kai read the poem, open quote, Teacup Thunder, close quote. Watch out: a plain title with no outfit is wrong too.
