How the lesson starts: Know What Conjunctions, Prepositions, and Interjections Do

All aboard the Word Express
Conductor Oona is a raccoon with a very shiny cap. She runs the Word Express, and every word on her train has a job. Today she hires three workers: a coupler, a signpost, and a whistle.
Three workers
A conjunction is a coupler. It joins two ideas: because, but, or. A preposition is a signpost. It points to a place or a path: under, across. An interjection is a whistle. It bursts out with feeling: wow, oops!
Let's name the job
Read: we stayed inside because the storm was strong. What job does because do? Does it burst with feeling? No. Does it point to a place? No. Does it join two ideas? Yes! It's a conjunction. Watch out: a whole idea after it means coupler.
