Locate Information Across Sources

Use multiple print/digital sources efficiently to locate an answer, verify a detail, or solve a research question.

How the lesson starts: Locate Information Across Sources

  1. The Sky Library

High above the clouds floats the Sky Library, run by Suki the snowy owl. Kids send up questions by paper airplane. Suki never reads every book. She knows exactly which source to grab.

  2. Every source has a job

Match the question to the kind of source. A weather question? A forecast. A word's meaning? A dictionary. Animal facts? An animal encyclopedia. Bus streets? A route map.

  3. Let's pick a source

Question: how long do sea turtles live? A weather map? No turtles there. An adventure story? Make-believe, not facts. A sports schedule? No. An animal encyclopedia? Built for animal facts. Watch out: a story with turtle in the title still isn't built for facts!
