Farmer Fern's garden
Hi friend! Farmer Fern has a garden bed with 4 equal rows. She plants carrots in 3 rows. Her goat Gus wants to know how much of the bed has carrots. Let's find out!
Row by row
Each row is 1/4 of the bed. Fern plants one row: 1/4. She plants another: 2/4. One more: 3/4! So 3/4 means 3 parts, and each part is 1/4.
Let's read a bed
Gus looks at a bed with 6 equal parts. 4 parts have beans. First, count all the equal parts: 6. Next, count the shaded parts: 4. Shaded on top, all parts on the bottom. It's 4/6! If all 6 were shaded, it would be 6/6.
