How the lesson starts: Grade 3 Bridge: Longer Multisyllabic Words

Tali the Caterpillar
Meet Tali the caterpillar. Tali is very long, just like some words! Her body has little round parts. Each part holds one chunk of a word. Let's split long words!
One chunk, one vowel sound
Clap it with Tali. But, ter, fly. Three claps, three chunks! Each chunk has one vowel sound. Di, no, saur. El, e, phant. Some chunks hold just one letter, like the E in elephant.
Split in the right spot
Tali checks each split. Say the chunks out loud. Fan, tas, tic sounds just like fantastic. Smooth! Now move one letter. Fa, ntas, tic. Bumpy! A good chunk is easy to say.
