Make a Narrative Vivid

Use temporal words, dialogue, descriptions, concrete/sensory details, character responses, and closure to develop a narrative.

How the lesson starts: Make a Narrative Vivid

  1. Gus paints with words

This is Gus the chameleon. Gus loves to paint. Today he paints with words! First, Gus needs words that tell when things happen in his story.

  2. Time words

Time words tell when things happen. First, next, then, after that, and finally are time words. Blue, loud, and happy are not. They tell how things look, sound, or feel.

  3. Use a time word

Gus's story is about his puppy friend, Dash. First, Dash grabbed his ball. Blank, he ran to the pond. Next tells when. Blue, he ran to the pond? That makes no sense! Next fits.
