Identify and use common nouns, pronouns, verbs, and frequent irregular forms in meaningful sentences.

How the lesson starts: Name the Job of Words

  1. Welcome to Word Town

Welcome to Word Town! Mayor Milo the bear gives every word a job badge. Some words name things. Some stand in for names. Some show action. Let's hand out badges!

  2. Three job badges

A noun names a person, place, animal, or thing, like Nita or pond. A pronoun stands in for a noun, like she or they. A verb shows action. Nita ate lunch. She ran to the pond.

  3. Badge sorting

Mayor Milo checks three words. Dog in the dog barked. A dog is an animal, so it's a noun. They in they sang. It stands in for names, so it's a pronoun. Jumped shows action. Verb!
