How the lesson starts: See How Stories, Dramas, and Poems Are Built

Boss Bix builds
Meet Boss Bix, a beaver who builds with words! A dam is built log by log. Poems, plays, and books are built part by part. Every part has a name. Let's learn the names!
Poems: lines and stanzas
Here is a poem. Gray clouds gather, soft and low. The air smells cold. Here comes the snow! Each row of words is a line. A group of lines is a stanza. This stanza has two lines.
Plays and books
A play is a story people act out. It is built in scenes. The name before the colon tells who is speaking. Words in parentheses are stage directions. They tell actors what to do. A story book is built in chapters.
